Analysis / Bias

In 2023, Reporters Without Borders ranked Bangladesh 161/180 in their Press Freedom Index, stating there is a “disturbing increase in press freedom violations.” Sheikh Hasina has been the country’s Prime Minister since 2009. She is the leader of the Center-Left Awami League.

In review, BDnews24 publishes news with a pro-government tone, such as this “Hasina hooked on fishing as she goes out for a breath of fresh air amid virus blow” and “The new cabinet: Full of surprises, and a first in Bangladesh.” They also report news related to the opposition with a neutral tone “RAB arrests cartoonist Kishore, writer Mushtaq Ahmed in digital security case.” When covering world news pertaining to the USA, they cover the Tformer rump administration with a critical tone by republishing New York Times articles such as “What Trump and toxic cops have in common.” They generally source information poorly and report one-sided government propaganda through bias by omission.
