MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 06/28/2026 (Weekend Edition)

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

TRUE Claim via Social Media: Democratic state Rep. James Talarico of Texas once said, “I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity.”

Snopes.com rating: True (The full context of the question and Talarico’s answer revealed the statement was made in response to a discussion about progressive politics and how to fight systemic issues within an established system. Talarico made the statement followed by a point that he is always drawn back to Christianity because of the teachings of Jesus Christ. It called back to an earlier discussion in the podcast episode about self-proclaimed Christians who promote bigotry rather than Scripture or who promote a narrower view of Christianity.)

Posts sharing James Talarico quote about hating Christianity omit context

FALSE (International: Thailand): Photo shows former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra visiting his sister in Dubai.

AFP Fact Check rating: False
