FALSE Claim via Social Media: “Roe v. Wade happened because a woman lied about being raped by black men.”

Politifact rating: False (Debunked conspiracy theory.  The U.S. Supreme Court did not consider the circumstances of plaintiff Jane Roe’s pregnancy when ruling on the landmark case in 1973. An alleged rape was never mentioned in court or in the court’s ruling. )

USA Today rating: False (During Eisenhower’s presidency, the corporate tax rate ranged from 30 to 52%, according to the Tax Foundation.)

PolitiFact rating: Pants on Fire (They do want to jail Doctors. Over a dozen Republican-controlled states have passed abortion laws that permit jail sentences for doctors. 45 Republicans in the U.S. Senate sponsored or co-sponsored the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would impose a prison sentence of up to five years.)

Claim by Viral Post: claims Republican North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer stated that saving a fetus is worth losing the mother’s life.

Check Your Fact rating: False (There is no record of Cramer making such a remark.)

Politifact rating: False (Grassley, the committee’s former chairman, is still on the committee.)

FALSE (International: Australia): Claim by Bob Katter: Algae ponds can capture all the carbon dioxide from coal-fired power stations, resulting in zero-emissions energy.

Australian Associated Press rating: False (The ponds would only be able to absorb a small fraction of CO2 emitted from coal burnt at a power plant.)
