Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving her position, President Donald Trump tweeted Sunday evening. Trump also said that Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner, will take her place as acting secretary.
Nielsen has suffered from tepid support within the administration, taking public responsibility for Trump’s deeply divisive anti-immigration policies. Trump has reportedly expressed displeasure with her job performance.
