The White House on Friday released a record of President Donald Trump’s first call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in April as the second open hearing in House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry got underway.
That call, according to the text, appears congratulatory and cordial in nature, with Trump congratulating Zelenskiy on his recent election and saying he would later be invited to the White House. Zelenskiy quickly invites Trump to his inauguration, extolling the virtues of his country. Trump is noncommittal, promising a high-level delegation. Officials later testified that the White House visit was made conditional upon Zelenskiy investigating Trump’s political rival.
