Analysis / Bias

UNN is a general news agency that primarily covers Ukrainian domestic affairs, politics, economics, and Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Reporting generally draws on government officials, law enforcement agencies, local administrations, international media, and primary-source statements.

For example, in reporting on a Russian drone strike in Zaporizhzhia, UNN relies on statements from regional officials and describes casualties and infrastructure damage without excessive emotional language. Russia attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones: one person died, another was injured

The outlet also frequently republishes or summarizes reporting from major international media. For instance, an article titled Putin finds himself in a “zugzwang” in the war against Ukraine – The Washington Post is clearly attributed to analysis originating from The Washington Post rather than presented as original reporting.

Domestic crime and public safety reporting similarly relies on official police sources, as seen in In Kyiv, a man fired a gun and accidentally wounded a pedestrian.

Editorially, UNN demonstrates a pro-Ukrainian perspective in coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war. Terms such as “Russian dictator Vladimir Putin,” frequent emphasis on Russian military losses, and framing supportive of Ukrainian sovereignty reflect a national perspective common among Ukrainian media outlets operating during wartime. While this creates a measurable pro-Ukrainian bias, it generally does not result in the publication of conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, or demonstrably false information.

Overall, UNN favors Ukraine’s democratic and Western-aligned positions while maintaining largely factual reporting based on official sources and established media reporting.
