History

The Existentialist Republic is an independent political and public-policy publication founded and published by Christopher Armitage. According to its About page, the publication focuses on political institutions, federalism, civil rights, democratic backsliding, and strategies for resisting authoritarianism.

Armitage is a U.S. Air Force veteran, former law-enforcement officer, and political writer with a master’s degree in Homeland Security. He has also published legal and constitutional analysis through State Court Report, a project of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law.

Armitage previously entered electoral politics as a Democrat, running in the 2020 primary for Washington’s 5th Congressional District before withdrawing from the race. His campaign priorities included removing corporate money from politics, sustainable jobs and housing, and healthcare for all. Ballotpedia documents his candidacy and political affiliation.

Analysis / Bias

The Existentialist Republic has a strongly left-wing and anti-Trump political orientation. Armitage consistently characterizes the Trump administration and MAGA movement as authoritarian or fascist and advocates using state governments, prosecutors, courts, organizing, and civil resistance to oppose federal policies.

In A Ruling Party That Faces No Consequences for Open Corruption Has No Reason to Accept Elections, Armitage argues that Republican control of federal institutions has produced systemic lawlessness and calls for state prosecutions of federal officials. The article includes extensive references to court decisions and documented controversies, but it also uses highly charged rhetoric and frequently treats contested interpretations as settled conclusions.

This pattern is even more apparent in Bombshell Uncovered: Evidence Shows Blanche Likely Committed Witness Bribery, Evidence Tampering, and Conspiracy in New Mexico. Armitage builds his argument around New Mexico statutes, congressional records, Maxwell’s prison transfer, and the New Mexico attorney general’s lawsuit against the Justice Department. New Mexico has in fact sued DOJ over its refusal to provide Epstein-related records, and Todd Blanche was confirmed as attorney general on August 8, 2026.

However, the New Mexico lawsuit alleges obstruction of its investigation; it does not establish that Blanche committed witness bribery, evidence tampering, or conspiracy. Armitage moves considerably beyond the available evidence when he portrays circumstantial evidence as demonstrating likely criminal conduct and describes Trump and others as “seditious pedophiles” and members of a criminal trafficking operation without an adjudicated factual basis for those accusations. The official complaint itself concerns access to investigative records and alleged federal noncooperation.

By contrast, Zohran Mamdani Loves Deregulation and Reducing Taxes demonstrates stronger analytical discipline. Armitage uses government documents, budgets, economic research, audits, and competing fiscal estimates to examine Mamdani’s small-business reforms. Although sympathetic to Mamdani, he also identifies weaknesses in the administration’s claims and notes projected future budget deficits.

Armitage therefore combines substantial research with explicit political advocacy. Economically, he favors progressive policies, healthcare expansion, restraints on corporate power, and economic populism. Socially and institutionally, he strongly favors civil rights, progressive reforms, and aggressive resistance to conservative governance. His bias is primarily evident through story selection, loaded language, activist calls to action, and overwhelmingly negative treatment of the Republican Party and Trump administration.
