History
Thetruth.com is a website for the Truth Initiative, founded in 1999 as a result of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA). The Truth Initiative’s signature program is its Truth campaign, a youth smoking prevention public education program credited with reducing teen smoking. Leidos (Fortune 500 information technology) supports the Truth Initiative opioid education and prevention campaign. The website publishes articles with emotionally loaded headlines, such as “Spotlight: Lincoln Mondy” and “VAPING + TOBACCO IS A SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUE.” In the article, Thetruth.com also highlights Big Tobacco’s history of systemic discrimination, such as funding a summer program that gave them access to Black children.
