Funded by / Ownership

The company is privately owned and funded primarily through advertising, commercial partnerships, television operations, and related media businesses.

Analysis / Bias

EBC News covers Taiwan’s major political parties and generally separates straight reporting from commentary. Recent political reporting presents positions from both the Democratic Progressive Party and Kuomintang without a consistent partisan pattern. For example, Taiwan Legislature Rejects Historic Impeachment Attempt Against President Lai reports the KMT, Taiwan People’s Party, and DPP positions and vote totals with little editorial framing.

Coverage of China and cross-strait relations generally reflects a Taiwan-centered perspective but is not consistently aligned with either pan-Green or pan-Blue politics. For example, China’s Taiwan Affairs Office Urges U.S. Opposition to Taiwan Independence presents Beijing’s claims while noting disputed historical and sovereignty assertions. Another report, China Conducts Live-Fire Drills Near Taiwan, relies primarily on Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense and Chinese maritime notices.

The outlet’s main weakness is sensationalism rather than consistent political bias. Headlines frequently use dramatic or click-oriented language, particularly for crime, health, entertainment, and breaking news. EBC also publishes astrology and fortune-telling content in its lifestyle section, which reduces overall credibility.

Factual reliability is generally acceptable, and EBC publicly posts corrections. However, it has had notable verification failures. In 2022, Taiwan’s National Communications Commission fined EBC News after a guest on its Critical Moment program falsely alleged preferential Moderna vaccinations at National Taiwan University Hospital without adequate verification. More recent corrections include a wrongly identified driver photo in 2025 and an incorrect on-screen news ticker in 2026.
