MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 07/02/2026

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

TRUE
Claim by David Jolly (D): Florida is “49th in avoidable hospital costs.”

PolitiFact rating: Mostly True (A 2025 Commonwealth Fund analysis ranked Florida 49th out of 51 in “avoidable hospital use and cost,” based on measures such as potentially avoidable ER visits, 30-day readmissions, and other efficiency indicators, though the category also included some non-hospital data such as Medicare spending.)

Florida governor candidate David Jolly says the state is 49th in ‘avoidable’ hospital costs. Is it?

MISLEADING Claim by Donald Trump (R): His Iran deal is “a wall to a nuclear weapon.”

FactCheck.org rating: Misleading (The preliminary agreement only says Iran reaffirms it will not develop nuclear weapons and leaves key nuclear details, including verification and enrichment terms, for future negotiations.)

FALSE Claim by Graham Platner (D): Sen. Susan Collins “sided with Trump, giving billionaires and corporations a hand out, paid for by cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.”

PolitiFact rating: False (In June 2025, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, voted on a motion to proceed on the One Big Beautiful Bill, President Donald Trump’s signature tax and spending legislation. She warned unless there were substantial changes, she would vote against its passage. Days later, Collins voted against the bill. Collins said she supported tax relief but opposed the legislation in part because of its Medicaid cuts.)

Platner says Collins sided with Trump to cut Medicaid, SNAP and help the rich. That’s False.
