Broadcasters Nationwide Rally Behind NO FAKES Act

Broadcast associations representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have urged Congressional leaders to pass the bipartisan NO FAKES Act of 2026. The legislation would establish federal protections against unauthorized AI-generated replicas of individuals’ voices and likenesses while preserving exemptions for legitimate news reporting, commentary, satire, parody, and other protected speech. Broadcasters argue that deepfakes threaten public trust, damage reputations, and undermine confidence in local news personalities, making the legislation an important safeguard as generative AI technologies rapidly advance. Kaitlan Collins Says Trump Still Seeks Media Approval

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins said President Trump continues to seek validation from mainstream media outlets despite frequently criticizing them publicly. Nexstar Defamation Lawsuit Heads Toward Jury Trial

A defamation and wrongful termination lawsuit brought against Nexstar Media Group by former WOOD-TV News Director Stanton Tang and Assistant News Director Amy Fox appears headed for trial after a court-ordered settlement conference ended without an agreement. The case stems from the pair’s termination following the circulation of a memo advising reporters to limit Pride Month coverage due to audience concerns. Earlier this year, a federal judge allowed key defamation claims to proceed, finding that statements made by Nexstar executives could have falsely implied the former employees held anti-gay views.
