Funded by / Ownership

Portfolio.hu is published by NET Média Zrt. In 2016, executives Gabriella Balogh and Zoltán Bán acquired NET Média through a management buyout from Central European Media & Publishing. Independent European media directory Eurotopics continues to identify Balogh and Bán as the owners.

Revenue comes from advertising, subscriptions, financial-data and trading services, conferences, events, and other commercial activities operated by the Portfolio Group. The publisher also discloses that it may have commercial relationships with companies covered by its financial reporting.

Analysis / Bias

Portfolio.hu primarily reports business, financial markets, and economic policy using neutral language, economic data, government documents, market information, and expert analysis.

For example, America in the red after unexpected labor market data provides real-time coverage of U.S. and European financial markets, labor statistics, bond yields, and individual stocks. Likewise, Big changes are coming to store shelves – Minister speaks out straightforwardly summarizes a government agricultural policy announcement.

Political and economic analysis is generally driven by fiscal and market considerations rather than partisan ideology. For example, Here is the Tisza government’s 500 billion Havária Fund – But what can it do with it? scrutinizes the new government’s budget policy, discretionary spending, deficit projections, and fiscal credibility. The article also compares the current government’s approach with practices under the previous Orbán government.

Portfolio has also published critical reporting about media concentration, government economic management, rule-of-law concerns, and both Fidesz and Tisza government policies. Its perspective is generally pro-market and fiscally cautious, but this does not translate into a consistent left-right political bias.
