MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 06/02/2026

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

FALSE Claim by Ron DeSantis (R): Raising the property tax exemption threshold to $500,000 would make 92% of Florida homes tax-free.

PolitiFact rating: False (Public state data shows about 76% of Florida homestead properties are valued at $500,000 or less, and researchers said there is likely no public data confirming DeSantis’ 92% estimate.)

Fact-checking DeSantis: Would his plan exempt 60% of Florida homeowners from paying property taxes?

Claim via Social Media: Bill Clinton said Palestinians “never really wanted a homeland for themselves” and “just wanted to kill the Jews.”

Snopes rating: False (The quote was altered from Clinton’s October 2024 remarks; he referred to Hamas, not Palestinians broadly, and said Hamas wanted to kill Israelis, not “the Jews.”)

Did Bill Clinton say Palestinians ‘never really wanted a homeland’ and ‘just wanted to kill the Jews’?

Claim via Social Media: Kid Rock said he will not put out any more music if Democrats win the House during the midterms.

Lead Stories rating: False (No evidence. Sadly, the threat is not real.)

Fact Check: Kid Rock Did NOT Say He Wouldn’t Put Out More Music If Democrats Win The House During Midterms

TRUE Claim via Social Media: The office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican candidate for Senate in 2026, brokered a plea deal for a man accused of child sex abuse that allowed him to serve only 30 days in jail and not have to register as a sex offender.

Snopes.com rating: True (Adam Hoffman’s original trial in 2025 ended with a hung jury. Paxton’s office offered a plea deal rather than re-try the case, saying the accuser “preferred to move on with his life.” The deal reduced Hoffman’s charges to indecent assault and display of harmful materials to a minor, accompanied by an admission of intent to abuse the victim without specifying an age.)

Texas AG Ken Paxton’s office let man accused of child sex abuse receive short jail term

FALSE (International: Australia): The Australian federal government spends $1 trillion each year, including $90 billion on debt interest.

AAP rating: False (The government spent $799 billion in 2024/25, including $37 billion on debt interest.)

No, federal government does not spend $1tn each year
