The Onion Seeks to Take Over Infowars and Recast It as Satire

The Onion is asking a Texas court to approve a six-month licensing deal that would let it operate Infowars’ website and social media accounts while bankruptcy proceedings continue. The proposed agreement includes monthly payments of $81,000 and would place comedian Tim Heidecker in charge of the platform’s creative direction as it shifts to parody content. The effort comes after Infowars parent company Free Speech Systems entered liquidation following more than $1 billion in defamation judgments over Alex Jones’ false Sandy Hook claims. French prosecutors have summoned Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino as part of an investigation into the platform’s algorithms, data practices, and alleged dissemination of illegal content. According to reporting cited from The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Justice Department declined to help French authorities, arguing the probe could conflict with First Amendment protections and amount to involvement in a politically charged case. French investigators are also examining allegations involving child sexual abuse material, sexualized deepfakes, and Holocaust denial content generated or circulated on the platform, adding to broader international scrutiny of X’s moderation practices. FBI Director Kash Patel Sues The Atlantic for $250 Million

FBI Director Kash Patel has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The Atlantic over a story alleging that his drinking and absences negatively affected his job performance. Patel claims the magazine acted with actual malice by publishing false and damaging claims despite his denials. One of the suit’s central disputes involves a report that security personnel sought breaching equipment after Patel was unreachable in his room, an allegation his lawyers call completely fabricated.
