Fact Check Search

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: The State of California paid the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) more than $100 million mainly to fund protesters.

Lead Stories rating: False (California’s payments to CHIRLA were overwhelmingly tied to immigration legal services and social welfare programs. There is no evidence in state budget records that any funds were used to pay or organize protesters.)

Fact Check: California Did NOT Give Coalition For Humane Immigrant Rights $100 Million Mainly To Pay Protesters

FALSE Claim by President Donald Trump (R): After U.S. vessel strikes in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, “drugs entering our country by sea are down 97%.”

Politifact rating: False (From July 2025 to November 2025, Customs and Border Protection’s air and marine drug seizures dropped by 98%. The Coast Guard, which is in charge of most maritime drug interdictions, saw a 200% seizure increase in fiscal year 2025 compared with other annual averages. Drug seizures tell us only how many drugs are stopped from entering the U.S. The figures don’t show how many drugs are being sent to the U.S. or how many are making it in.)

Is President Donald Trump right that drugs entering the US by sea have dropped by 97%?

Donald Trump Rating

MISLEADING Claim by President Donald Trump (R): “Properly applied, tariffs do not hurt growth — they promote growth and greatness.”

FactCheck.org rating: Misleading (Economists cited describe tariffs as a tax that raises costs and is more likely a drag on growth; analyses referenced estimate tariffs reduced GDP growth in 2025 and are expected to reduce growth in 2026.)
