News Outlets Push Back Against Pentagon’s New Press Restrictions

A wide coalition of national media outlets, including conservative publications like Newsmax and the Washington Times, has refused to sign a new agreement with the Pentagon requiring journalists to adhere to restrictive rules to retain press credentials. The Pentagon’s revised policy, introduced last month, was softened slightly after backlash but still includes provisions that press groups argue could infringe on First Amendment rights. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has publicly dismissed the concerns, responding with a “goodbye” emoji on social media to outlets opting out. Trump Praises CBS After Leadership Shakeup, Bari Weiss Named CBS News Editor in Chief

President Trump endorsed the potential of CBS News following the merger of its parent company Paramount with David Ellison’s Skydance. Trump noted that Ellison, whose father, Larry Ellison, is a close ally, “will do the right thing.” David Ellison recently acquired Bari Weiss’s digital outlet The Free Press and installed her as CBS News’s editor in chief. CNN International is set to debut CNN Creators, a multiplatform programming initiative launching October 23 with a weekly 30-minute show titled CNN Creators – The Intro. The show will feature a team of diverse digital-native journalists covering trends in AI, tech, culture, sports, and more. In 2026, the program will transition into its permanent format and broadcast from CNN’s new facility in Media City, Qatar. Led by Andrew Potter and supported by a global team of experienced journalists, CNN Creators aims to capture younger audiences through innovative storytelling and strong digital integration.
