Congressional Defunding Threat Could Devastate NPR and PBS

Following renewed Republican efforts to defund public broadcasting, a resurfaced internal NPR report reveals that eliminating federal support could lead to widespread station closures and listener losses. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) currently receives $535 million, funding distributed to 1,500 NPR and PBS stations — already secured through 2027. However, a 2011 internal NPR report, now public, warned that loss of CPB funding could eliminate $240 million in support and shutter up to 180 local stations, disproportionately affecting rural and underserved regions. NPR CEO Katherine Maher emphasized at a recent event that federal funds are crucial to maintaining broadcast infrastructure in remote areas and ensuring nationwide representation in news reporting. Meta Faces Growing Fines Globally; Seeks U.S. Government Support

Meta is facing escalating international regulatory pressure, including new fines from Turkey for not complying with orders to remove protest-related content. Steve Kornacki Departs MSNBC for Full-Time Role at NBC News

Longtime MSNBC political analyst Steve Kornacki is transitioning to NBC News in a broader on-air role. Best known for his election coverage and data-driven presentations on the “big board,” Kornacki will now appear across NBC platforms including “NBC Nightly News” and “Today,” and will also contribute to NBC Sports. His move comes as MSNBC bolsters its reporting team ahead of Comcast’s plans to spin off its cable assets.
