PBS Shuts Down DEI Office Following Federal Compliance Concerns

PBS has announced the closure of its Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump. The decision results in the termination of two executives, Cecilia Loving and Gina Leow, who were leading the effort since 2021. PBS CEO Paula Kerger stated that while the office is shutting down, the organization remains committed to diverse storytelling. The move comes as public broadcasting faces renewed scrutiny over federal funding, with some lawmakers pushing to defund PBS and NPR. AP Criticizes White House After Reporter Blocked from Event

The Associated Press (AP) is pushing back against the Trump administration after one of its reporters was barred from an Oval Office event. The dispute stems from AP’s refusal to comply with a White House directive to use “Gulf of America” instead of “Gulf of Mexico” in its coverage, following President Trump’s executive order renaming the body of water. AP executive editor Julie Pace called the exclusion a violation of the First Amendment and an attack on independent journalism. BBC Report Finds AI-Generated News Summaries Are Highly Inaccurate

A new BBC report has uncovered widespread inaccuracies in AI-generated news summaries from platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Copilot, Google’s Gemini, and Perplexity AI. The investigation found that 51% of AI responses contained significant issues, including factual distortions and misattributions. Some AI-generated summaries incorrectly altered quotes or cited outdated sources. Following the findings, Apple temporarily paused an AI feature summarizing news notifications. BBC News CEO Deborah Turness is calling for collaboration between the news industry, tech firms, and governments to address misinformation risks posed by AI-generated content.
