History

Faktoje.al is an Albanian fact-checking organization launched in 2018 to verify the statements and promises of public officials. According to the About page, the organization was established through a USAID grant under the auspices of the Gender Alliance for Development (GADC) with support from the National Center for Social Studies. Faktoje operates as a non-governmental media organization registered in Albania and focuses on verifying claims made by politicians, public institutions, and entities that benefit from public funding.

Funded by / Ownership

Faktoje.al operates as an independent non-governmental organization. The project was initially supported through USAID funding and institutional partners such as the Gender Alliance for Development and the National Center for Social Studies. According to the organization’s transparency disclosures, additional funding has come through international grants and programs including the MATRA Program from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, IREX, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and the European Union.

Faktoje.al focuses on fact-checking political claims, public policy statements, and misinformation circulating in the Albanian media ecosystem. For example, the fact-check Russian media “arrests” virtual minister Diella for corruption analyzes a viral claim originating from Russian media that falsely reported the arrest of an artificial intelligence “minister.” The article explains that the story originated from satire and was misrepresented as factual news.
