Court Halts California Social Media Restrictions

A federal appellate panel has temporarily blocked enforcement of a California law that would have restricted social media platforms from algorithmically recommending posts to minors without parental consent. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an injunction against the Protecting Our Kids From Social Media Addiction Act (SB976), pending a final ruling on its constitutionality. Tech industry group NetChoice challenged the law, arguing it infringes on First Amendment rights.
