MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 09/07/2024 (Weekend Edition)

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

FALSE
Claim by Donald Trump (R): “There’s been a 43% increase in violent crimes since I left office.”

PolitiFact rating: Mostly False (The National Crime Victimization Survey, which the Justice Department conducts annually, shows a 43% increase in violent crime from 2020 to 2022. But another federal source shows the opposite picture. The FBI’s annual data from 2020 to 2022 shows a decline in violent crime, as does the FBI’s preliminary data for 2023. Multiple nongovernmental crime statistics analyses also found violent crime declined in 2023 and 2024.)

Donald Trump said violent crime spiked 43% under Biden-Harris. That ignores reams of data.
