PolitiFact rating: Mostly False (The National Crime Victimization Survey, which the Justice Department conducts annually, shows a 43% increase in violent crime from 2020 to 2022. But another federal source shows the opposite picture. The FBI’s annual data from 2020 to 2022 shows a decline in violent crime, as does the FBI’s preliminary data for 2023.
