History

Founded in 1931, GQ (formerly Gentlemen’s Quarterly) is an international monthly men’s magazine and website based in New York City. The publication focuses on fashion, style, and culture for men, though articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, music, travel, sports, technology, books and politics are also featured. GQ does not have an about page and although they have a masthead, they do not provide links or biographical information for their editors and writers. The current editor-in-chief is Will Welch.

GQ is owned by Conde Naste, which is an American mass media company founded in 1909 by Condé Montrose Nast, based in New York City and owned by Advance Publications. They own 18 brands including Allure, Architectural Digest, Ars Technica, Backchannel, Bon Appétit, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Golf Digest, Pitchfork, Self, Teen Vogue, The New YorkerVanity Fair, Vogue, and Wired. Revenue is derived from advertising, sponsored content and subscription sales.

Analysis / Bias

In review, GQ primary reports on men’s fashion and lifestyle. They also occasionally report on politics with a left leaning bias such as this: Trump Promotes Conspiracy Theorist Who Says the President Is Like the “King of Israel”. This story is thoroughly sourced to credible publications such as the Washington Post and Pew Research. When reporting on conservatives, their is frequent use of emotional language such as this: How to Fix the Conservative Hijacking of the Supreme Court. Editorially, GQ favors liberal policies and almost always reports negatively on the right. 

A factual search reveals they have not failed a fact check.
