History
Solidarity is an explicitly far-left, revolutionary socialist organization based in Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia. It was formed in 2008 through the merger of three groups—Solidarity, Socialist Action Group, and the International Socialist Organisation—and is a member of the International Socialist Tendency. The group publishes a monthly magazine, also titled Solidarity, and advocates for the overthrow of capitalism and the establishment of socialism through mass action rather than parliamentary means. The organization engages in activism related to refugee rights, unionism, anti-imperialism, climate justice, and LGBTQ+ liberation.

Analysis / Bias
Solidarity openly advocates a far-left ideological position. Its stated aim is the dismantling of capitalism through revolutionary socialism, not electoral reform. Their editorial stance reflects unwavering opposition to capitalism, imperialism, nationalism, and state institutions.
Articles such as “Why capitalism breeds imperialism and war” and “Labor’s gas expansion: Climate vandalism that tramples on Aboriginal rights” illustrate this ideological commitment. Another, “Transphobia runs deeper than anti-trans bigots”, links social oppression directly to capitalist interests, while “Savage new job cuts planned at UTS and Macquarie Uni” critiques labor conditions from a militant unionist perspective.
Despite its passionate tone and ideological rigor, articles lack inline sourcing or hyperlinks to external verification. The publication relies on internal ideological framing and movement-based perspectives rather than traditional journalistic citation standards.
Failed Fact Checks
- None from IFCN-certified organizations, but the lack of citation and external references moderately lowers its factual reliability.
Overall, we rate Solidarity as Far-Left Biased due to its revolutionary socialist framework, advocacy for dismantling capitalism, and alignment with global anti-imperialist movements. Its reporting is rated Mostly Factual due to transparency, consistency, and issue depth, but sourcing limitations and ideological echo-chamber tendencies prevent a higher rating. (D.
