Funded by / Ownership

Newschecker is an independent fact-checking initiative of NC Media Networks Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Delhi. The company is registered with India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and Newschecker states that its corporate records and financial returns are available through the MCA website.

Newschecker discloses that Rajneil Rajnath Kamath owns the majority stake in NC Media Networks. The directors are Rajneil Rajnath Kamath, Rajnath Venkatramana Kamath, and Anirudh Balakrishnan. The organization states that no sitting or former elected officials, political party officeholders, or party spokespersons hold ownership or a stake in the organization.

Newschecker says it is self-funded and also provides third-party fact-checking services to social media and messaging platforms. It discloses that organizations contributing more than 5% or 7.5% of revenue in recent financial years include Meta Inc., Mohalla Tech Pvt. Ltd., and ByteDance Pte. Ltd. Newschecker states that it does not accept funding from or work with politicians, political parties, or organizations linked to political parties.

Analysis / Bias

Newschecker is rated Least Biased because its primary function is claim verification rather than political commentary. The site states that it treats claims from all political sides equally and prioritizes claims involving health, public safety, law and order, propaganda, divisive content, and large public reach. Its methodology includes claim selection, investigation, source review, outreach to claimants or subjects when possible, editorial review, quality review, and published verdicts.

For example, Did Donald Trump Say PM Modi Killed Millions In Gujarat? No, Video Found To Be Doctored debunks a viral video claiming that Donald Trump said Prime Minister Narendra Modi killed millions in Gujarat. Newschecker searched for credible reports, reviewed Trump’s official channels, located the original C-SPAN footage, compared the viral clip to the original video, identified visual inconsistencies, and used AI/deepfake detection tools such as Resemble AI, Undetectable AI, and Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector. The verdict was Altered Photo/Video. This fact check benefits Modi by correcting a false claim about him, but the evidence-based process does not indicate pro-Modi bias by itself.

In Viral Letter Claiming Nuclear Radiation At Brahmos Missile Facility In Punjab’s Beas Is Fake, Newschecker investigates a viral letter claiming a nuclear radiation leak at a BrahMos missile facility in Beas, Punjab. The fact check identifies language and geographic errors in the document, checks the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board website, reviews IAEA statements, cites reporting from Times of India and India Today, and obtains direct confirmation from AERB that the letter is fake. This demonstrates strong verification and sourcing.

Overall, Newschecker demonstrates strong fact-checking practices, including transparent ownership, disclosed revenue sources, a public methodology, multilingual coverage, claim-by-claim evidence, source lists, direct agency confirmation, reverse-image/video analysis, and technical deepfake detection. While some fact checks may defend Indian officials or institutions when viral claims are false, the reviewed examples do not show sufficient evidence of pro-Modi bias. A High factual rating is warranted.
