Inter Press Service - Left-Center bias

LEFT-CENTER BIAS

These media sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias.  They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes.  These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Left-Center sources.

History

Founded in 1964, Inter Press Service (IPS) or IPS news agency is a global news agency based in Rome, Italy. Roberto Savio and Pablo Piacentini are the founders of Inter Press Service (IPS) and Thalif Deen is Senior Consulting Editor.

Inter Press Service (IPS) focuses on providing news and analysis about sustainable development, events on the Global South, civil society, and globalization.

According to their about page, Inter Press Service (IPS) states its mission as “giving a voice to the voiceless – acting as a communication channel that privileges the voices and the concerns of the poorest and creates a climate of understanding, accountability and participation around development, promoting a new international information order between the South and the North.”

Analysis / Bias

In review, IPS News uses minimally loaded words in their articles such as: “Former UN Chief Takes the Helm of Global Green Growth Institute” and “International Solidarity” at Yemen Donor Conference.” In their reports such as “How Global Emissions Have Changed Since 1850” they utilize these credible sources: the non-profit organization The World Resources Institute (WRI) and Washington based progressive think tank, Institute for Policy Studies. Further, IPS does not have a favorable opinion of President Trump. Politically, the majority of stories favor those supported by the left.

Overall, we rate Inter Press Service (IPS) high in factual reporting due to credible sourcing and Left-Center biased based on story selection that usually favors the left. (M. Huitsing 4/9/2018) Updated (11/17/2018)
