History
Europe 1 is a French national radio station founded in 1955. Historically, it operated as a mainstream general-interest broadcaster covering politics, culture, entertainment, and breaking news.
Beginning in the early 2020s, Europe 1 underwent a significant editorial transformation as its programming became increasingly integrated with the broader conservative media ecosystem associated with CNews and the Bolloré-linked Lagardère/Vivendi group. The shift led to a major strike by journalists in 2021 over concerns about editorial independence and was followed by substantial newsroom departures.

Europe 1 is owned through Lagardère. The radio division, Lagardère Radio SCA, includes Europe 1, Europe 2, and RFM. Lagardère states that it owns the full capital of the radio division, while Arnaud Lagardère serves as managing partner and is the ultimate decision-maker on editorial policy. Revenue comes primarily from commercial advertising, sponsorships, and related media operations.

Europe 1 has shifted strongly to the political right, particularly through opinion and talk programming. Its schedule prominently features conservative commentators such as Pascal Praud and frequently focuses on immigration, Islam, national identity, security, and criticism of the French left.
