Analysis / Bias
Brisbane Times publishes local reporting, investigations, political news, lifestyle coverage, and opinion. Straight news is generally detailed, professionally written, and sourced through interviews, official statements, government records, and established data.
In Labor MP Urges Party to Back Greyhound Racing Ban, the newspaper gives substantial attention to animal-welfare advocates and a Labor politician supporting a ban. However, it also includes responses from the Labor opposition, the state government, racing officials, and industry critics, demonstrating reasonable balance despite a sympathetic focus on animal welfare.
Opinion content commonly reflects socially liberal and center-left perspectives. However, economic commentary can be more centrist or market-oriented. For example, One Bold, Fiscal Move Would Ease Our Economic Anxiety. Does the PM Have the Nerve? argues that the Labor government should balance the federal budget, reflecting fiscal restraint rather than a consistently left-wing economic position.
Overall, Brisbane Times tends to favor progressive positions on climate change, social policy, public services, and civil rights. Its reporting generally distinguishes news from opinion and includes responses from opposing political parties.
