Funded by / Ownership

American Moment operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI), a nonprofit organization founded by former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint. CPI provides support and infrastructure for several right-leaning organizations. Sharma and Solheim secured initial funding from the Conservative Partnership Institute, which contributed $336,000 to American Moment in 2021. According to ProPublica, American Moment received $55,000 in 2023 from the W.L. Amos Sr. Foundation, which also funds other groups involved with Project 2025. The organization does not list major donors publicly on its website but maintains 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

Analysis / Bias

American Moment exhibits a consistent right-wing populist and national-conservative bias, evident in both topic selection and framing. Its core issues include immigration restriction, the promotion of “traditional” family structures, national sovereignty, and religious and cultural traditionalism. On its Priorities page, the group states support for policies that “enforce law and order,” “place Americans first in trade and immigration,” and “restrict the use of military force to vital national interests.”

In an article titled “American Moment Joins Legal Fight to Restore Merit-Based Hiring in Federal Workforce,” the organization announced its support for a lawsuit aiming to overturn the 1981 Luevano consent decree, which they argue undermines merit-based hiring in the federal workforce. The article cites Fox News coverage for context.

Consistent with its ideological framing, in its study guide “Unmasking the Deep State,” republished with permission from Tablet Magazine, American Moment describes a “digital leviathan” controlling thought through “opaque algorithms” and likens U.S. governance to China’s social credit system. The tone is conspiratorial, with no counterpoints, and its framing amplifies skepticism toward U.S. federal institutions and aligns with American Moment’s broader messaging.

In addition to its focus on institutional distrust, the organization also promotes a restrictive immigration agenda. In a 2022 speech, President Saurabh Sharma—born in Bangalore, India—called for sealing the border and reducing both legal and illegal immigration, describing high-skill visa programs as “a lie perpetrated against the American people.”

Article titles and section headers routinely include emotionally loaded language, and external sources, when cited, primarily include partisan think tanks and conservative commentators.
