Fact Check Search

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

FALSE Claim via Social Media: “Forty percent of homeless people are veterans.”

Gigafact rating: False (Veterans make up about 4.3% of the U.S. homeless population, not 40%. The December 2024 point-in-time count found 32,882 homeless veterans out of 771,480 total homeless individuals. The number of homeless veterans has declined 55% since 2009 and 8% between 2023 and 2024.)

Are 40% of homeless people veterans?

The Dispatch Fact Check rating: Misleading (The measure supports the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation’s 2X Women’s Initiative, which promotes women’s economic empowerment in developing nations — not partisan or ideological programs.)
