Gannett Launches $100 Million Cuts and Revamps Subscription Model

After a turbulent first half of the year, Gannett is launching a $100 million cost-cutting initiative and shifting its subscription strategy. Despite posting a $78.4 million profit, up from $13.7 million the year before, total revenue fell 8.6% to $584.9 million. The company will close two major print facilities, automate and outsource various operations, and roll out buyouts to reduce costs. Gannett is also pivoting to annual subscription offers and increasing prices in high-engagement markets. Skydance Denies Role in Colbert Cancellation as Merger Faces Scrutiny

Skydance Media has stated it was not involved in Paramount’s decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in 2026. The announcement follows scrutiny from Senators Warren, Wyden, and Sanders over whether the show’s cancellation was linked to merger concessions made to the Trump administration. Paramount recently settled a Trump defamation lawsuit for $16 million and agreed to several conditions, including the installation of a CBS News ombudsman and ad donations to conservative causes. The Daily Beast Retracts Story Linking Melania Trump to Epstein

The Daily Beast has retracted an article suggesting First Lady Melania Trump met Donald Trump through Jeffrey Epstein, based on claims from author Michael Wolff. Following a legal challenge from Melania Trump’s attorney, the publication removed the piece and issued an apology. Wolff had made the allegations during a podcast interview, referencing model agency founder Paolo Zampolli and Epstein’s social network. The Daily Beast later acknowledged that the article misrepresented the podcast comments.
