Boston Globe Media has taken control of Boston magazine from Metro Corp., publisher of Philadelphia magazine. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but all Boston magazine staff members were offered the opportunity to stay on. Linda Henry, CEO of Boston Globe Media, praised the magazine’s role in chronicling Boston’s culture and community for over 50 years. Google Commits to Tougher Penalties for Fake Reviews in the U.K.

NBC News Lays Off 40 Employees Amid Corporate Restructuring

NBC News has laid off approximately 40 employees, affecting 3% of its 1,500-person workforce. While layoffs are part of a realignment to enhance its digital operations, NBC News is simultaneously hiring for over a dozen new roles. The NBC Digital NewsGuild and The NewsGuild of New York criticized the layoffs, accusing NBC of violating labor laws. These cuts coincided with CNN’s announcement of 200 job cuts (6% of its workforce) as both organizations pivot toward digital-first strategies.
