Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers who are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

FALSE Claim by Jesse Watters: “Fauci frankensteined Covid bats on our soil a year before the pandemic, but then acted all shocked when the virus started spreading” ; Fauci’s goons went to the Wuhan lab, bottled up a virus and brought it to a lab in America”

Health Feedback rating: Incorrect (The virus WIV-1 studied in the Montana NIAID lab in 2018 is unrelated to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2, a different coronavirus that is a distant relative of WIV-1. The scientific publication describing the experiments conducted on the virus WIV-1 in Montana in 2018 explained that the researchers used synthetic viral particles that they produced locally. There is no indication that some viral particles were shipped from Wuhan.)

Claim by Viral Image: A photo shows actress Gal Gadot enlisting in the IDF to serve in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Check Your Fact rating: False (The image of Gadot is not recent. It was taken when Gadot was drafted into the IDF in 2005.)

Claim by Joe Biden (D): “Over the past four decades, we’ve lost over 400,000 farms in America (and) over 140 million acres of farmland. And that’s an area roughly equal to the size of Minnesota, North and South Dakota combined.”

PolitiFact rating: Mostly True (Biden is correct about the decline in the number of U.S. farms over the past four decades, and he’s close on the acreage lost, which is roughly equal to the land area of the three states he cited.)

FALSE Claim by Mike Johnson (R): “Only in Washington can you cut funding, add a pay-for to a new spending measure, and they say it’s terrible for the deficit.”

PolitiFact rating: False (The Congressional Budget Office’s long-standing practice has been to classify cuts to the IRS’ enforcement budget — which decrease collections — as reducing tax revenue. That means cuts to the agency’s enforcement budget are projected to increase the deficit.)

Despite Mike Johnson’s claim, some spending cuts can increase deficits

FALSE (International: Israel): Hezbollah released a video of their missiles after US warships entered the Mediterranean Sea to support Israel.

The Quint rating: False
