The Latest Fact Checks curated by Media Bias Fact Check 03/13/2022

Each day Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

FALSE Claim by Mike Pence (R): Joe Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone pipeline “dramatically increased Americans’ dependence on Russian oil.”

PolitiFact rating: False (The Keystone XL pipeline was never built, so Biden’s canceling it didn’t make the U.S. more reliant on Russian oil. After the U.S. placed economic sanctions on Venezuela in 2019 while Pence was in office, the U.S. began to buy more Russian oil.)

Pence falsely blames Biden’s nixing of Keystone pipeline for US reliance on Russian oil

FALSE Claim by John Campbell, Children’s Health Defense: Safety surveillance data in the Pfizer’s document shows harmful effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

Health Feedback rating: Misleading (More disinformation from Retired Nurse John Campbell. Pfizer’s safety document doesn’t list known side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine but adverse events that occurred following vaccination, regardless of what caused them. The list of adverse events attributed to the vaccine are based on reports that, on their own, don’t demonstrate that the vaccine caused the adverse event and therefore can’t be used as evidence that the vaccine is unsafe.)

Pfizer’s confidential document shows adverse events reported following vaccination; it doesn’t demonstrate that the vaccine caused the events or is unsafe

Children’s Health Defense Rating

TRUE Claim by Kathy Hochul (D): “We are No. 1 among all large states in having fully vaccinated teenagers. We are No. 2 in all large states for having fully vaccinated five- to 11- year-olds.”

PolitiFact rating: True (Data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services back up Hochul’s claim.)

Claim by Tucker Carlson: “Toria Nuland just confirmed that the Russian disinformation (Bioweapons) they’ve been telling us for days is a lie and a conspiracy theory and crazy and immoral to believe is, in fact, totally and completely true.”

The Washington Post rating: Four Pinocchios (Totally and completely false.)

‘US bioweapons labs in Ukraine’ claim is Russian disinformation

Tucker Carlson Rating

TRUE Claim by Glenn Grothman (R): “The US has made strides in reducing carbon emissions that other parts of the world have not.”

PolitiFact rating: True (When it comes to greenhouse gas emissions, the United States has made progress, decreasing emissions 8.2% from 2010 to 2019.)

US is making progress on cutting greenhouse gas emissions when compared to the rest of the world
