Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic leaders on Monday condemned Rep. Ilhan Omar’s use of “anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters” and called on the freshman Democrat from Minnesota to apologize for “these hurtful comments.”
The joint statement came after Omar, who is Muslim, touched off a wave of criticism from both parties when she tweeted on Sunday night that it is “all about the Benjamins baby” — suggesting money was driving U.S. policy toward Israel. “As Democrats and as Americans, the entire Congress must be fully engaged in denouncing and rejecting all forms of hatred, racism, prejudice and discrimination wherever they are encountered,” the statement from Pelosi and other House Democratic leaders said.
