Funded by / Ownership
Sources is owned and operated by Alex Heath. When launching the publication, Heath stated that he had no outside funding and intended to build the business primarily through paid subscriptions. Sources also accepts advertising and sponsorships.
In September 2026, Heath announced that he had joined venture-capital firm Sound Ventures as a partner while continuing to own and operate Sources independently. Heath states that his journalism will continue separately from his investment work, although the dual role creates potential conflicts when covering companies connected to Sound Ventures.
Analysis / Bias
Sources primarily covers technology rather than partisan politics and does not demonstrate a consistent left or right political bias. Reporting focuses on companies, products, investment, executives, and developments in artificial intelligence.
For example, Sam Altman on OpenAI’s next model and the AI backlash presents a detailed interview covering OpenAI’s research, competition, product strategy, and concerns about AI alignment without obvious ideological framing. Likewise, How to raise $5 billion combines an original interview with Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi with reporting on the company’s financing and technology business.
Heath has a strong record of original technology reporting, and articles generally rely on named interviews, firsthand reporting, company information, and well-established industry sources. However, his new role as an investor at Sound Ventures creates a meaningful potential conflict of interest when covering companies or executives connected to the firm’s portfolio.
