Piga Firimbi is a Kenyan fact-checking and verification project operated by Africa Uncensored. According to its About page, Africa Uncensored began operations in 2016 and established Piga Firimbi in 2020 to verify claims appearing in news reports, social media, and the broader information ecosystem.
Piga Firimbi follows the International Fact-Checking Network’s Code of Principles and participates in the international fact-checking community. In 2026, a Piga Firimbi representative attended GlobalFact26, and the organization was also selected for the IFCN’s SUSTAIN funding program.

Piga Firimbi is a project of Africa Uncensored Limited, a Kenyan company registered in 2014. The fact-checking project is financed through Africa Uncensored rather than through a separate funding structure.
Africa Uncensored publicly discloses its funding sources. In 2022, major support included grants from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the Ford Foundation, and Luminate, while commercial partnerships accounted for 23% of funding. In 2023, commercial partnerships were the largest source at 31%, followed by grants including support from the Embassy of the Netherlands and Luminate.
