OKO.press was established on June 15, 2016, by a group of journalists concerned with the state of democracy and media freedom in Poland under the Law and Justice (PiS) government. The platform was initially funded by Polityka Sp. z.o.o. S.K.A., Agora Holding Sp. z.o.o (associated with “Gazeta Wyborcza“), and a private individual. OKO.press has quickly become a prominent independent civic media outlet in Poland, known for its investigative journalism and fact-checking efforts.
