History
The New York Daily News, officially titled Daily News, is an American newspaper based in New York City. As of May 2016, it was the ninth-most widely circulated daily newspaper in the United States. However, it has since dropped out of the top 10. Founded in 1919, they are the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format. The editor was Jim Rich until July 23, 2018, when it was announced he was being let go along with 50% of the editorial staff. The paper owner, Tronc, replaced Jim Rich with Robert York, who is currently the editor and publisher of The Morning Call, a Tronc-owned daily newspaper in Allentown, Pa.

The New York Daily News is owned by MediaNews Group and published by Digital First Media, which publishes 190 newspapers across the USA. Digital First Media is owned by Alden Global Capital LLC, a New York-Based Hedge Fund described as “Vulture Capitalists” by former Denver Post writers for the cuts made to newsrooms. Advertising and subscription fees generate revenue.
Analysis / Bias
The New York Daily News is well known for sensational headlines that use strong loaded words such as this: Cuomo slams NYCHA says agency ‘lied’ about handling tenant repair requests. The Daily News primarily focuses on New York City news and produces hard-hitting journalism. New York Times journalist Alan Feuer said the Daily News focuses heavily on “deep sourcing and doorstep reporting,” providing city-centered “crime reportage and hard-hitting coverage of public issues.” Generally, the Daily News is well sourced to credible information.
Editorially, the Daily News leans left but has endorsed Republican George Bush for President and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in 2016.
