History

Founded in 2009, The Franklin News Foundation, formerly the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity is an online nonprofit news organization in the United States that publishes news and commentary from a free market, limited government perspective on state and local politics. The Franklin News Foundation publishes The Center Square, a network of state-based websites. According to their about page, “Franklin News Foundation’s mission is to hold government accountable through objective, balanced, citizen-focused public journalism with a taxpayer sensibility.”

The Franklin News Foundation is a nonprofit that is funded through donations. Previously, funding came from the Donors Trust and Donors Capital Fund. However, they lack transparency and do not clearly list how they are funded today.

In review, the Franklin News Foundation advocates for limited government and free-market capitalism. News reporting comes from their website The Center Square. Articles and headlines contain moderately loaded language, such as this Senate committee warned Florida taxpayers at risk unless state helps private property insurers.
