Founded in 1949, the Aspen Institute is a research institute and think tank that promotes the creation of a free, just, and equitable society. According to their about page, “the Institute drives change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the most important challenges facing the United States and the world.” The current President and CEO are Daniel R. Porterfield.

Funded by / Ownership

The Aspen Institute is a nonprofit organization that is primarily funded through donations. Large donors include the Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation, and the Ford Foundation. According to the Center for International Policy, they have received “sizeable donations from undemocratic regimes in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.”

Analysis / Bias

The Aspen Institute produces seminars, policy programs, conferences, and leadership development initiatives. The website features a blog that promotes news and information with left-leaning bias such as this Environmental Change, and Global Health Are Two Sides of the Same Coin. This story is properly sourced to NASA, ProPublica, and Science Direct.

Editorially, they report favorably on Joe Biden and negatively on former President Trump Anti-Muslim, Anti-Refugee Rhetoric Poses a Big Threat to Our Communities. In general, they report news factually and with a left-leaning editorial bias.
