Kentucky School District Settles Social Media Harm Lawsuit

A rural Kentucky school district has reached settlements with Meta, TikTok, Snap, and YouTube in a closely watched lawsuit alleging social media platforms contributed to student addiction and worsening mental health issues. The Breathitt County School District claimed it was forced to spend heavily on counseling and behavioral interventions because of excessive student social media use. The case was set to become a major bellwether trial among roughly 1,200 similar lawsuits filed nationwide, though the broader litigation against tech companies remains ongoing. CBS Drops Copyright Claims Over Colbert Appearance

CBS and Paramount reversed course after issuing copyright complaints against online uploads of Stephen Colbert’s surprise appearance on a Detroit-area public access television program. The company initially claimed ownership of the broadcast and sought removal of copies circulating online, sparking backlash and accusations that the network was trying to suppress Colbert’s criticisms of Paramount following the cancellation of The Late Show. Focus Group Finds Black Men Frustrated With Media and Trump

A new focus group study found that Black men who supported both Donald Trump and Joe Biden in recent elections are increasingly dissatisfied with Trump as well as mainstream media outlets. According to the findings, many participants now rely more heavily on independent creators and nontraditional platforms such as YouTube for news and political commentary.
