The study found that ChatGPT cites outlets like ReutersAxios, and Time significantly more often than Claude, which tends to focus on lifestyle content. The research also highlights disparities in citation quality, with ChatGPT more frequently linking to news published within the last year. The findings underscore journalism’s foundational role in the development of generative AI outputs, even as disputes persist over unauthorized syndication and source attribution.
