Nearly Half of Journalists Killed in India Were Investigating Environmental Issues

According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), nearly 50% of journalists murdered in India over the past decade were investigating environmental crimes, often linked to organized crime groups with ties to local authorities. RSF’s South Asia head, Célia Mercier, highlighted the danger journalists face when reporting on illegal activities such as sand mining, which has resulted in targeted killings and a near-total lack of accountability. Notable cases include Jagendra Singh, killed in 2015 for reporting on illegal mining, and Shashikant Warishe, killed in 2023 by an SUV driver linked to illegal land seizures. India ranks 161st out of 180 countries in the 2023 World Press Freedom Index, with RSF calling for urgent protections for journalists ahead of the upcoming elections.

Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne sees the FanDuel option as a promising investment, with potential valuation gains exceeding $1 billion.

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo raised concerns on her show, Sunday Morning Futures, about President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to deport millions of illegal immigrants, emphasizing the potential $88 billion annual cost.
