Trump asserts executive privilege over census documents subpoenaed by House Democrats

President Donald Trump has asserted executive privilege over the documents related to the administration’s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, the Department of Justice said Wednesday.

The DOJ informed House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., of Trump’s decision in a letter just as the committee began considering a resolution that would allow House Democrats to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for withholding those documents in defiance of a subpoena.
