‘We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges,’ Chief Justice Roberts says after Trump complaint

The normally restrained Chief Justice John Roberts took issue on Wednesday with President Donald Trump’s characterization of a federal judge who ruled against his administration as an “Obama judge.” “We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” Roberts said in a statement.

The appeals court has been a target of Trump’s since that ruling and the president has suggested breaking up the 9th Circuit, which is the largest appeals court in the U.S.

Update: President Trump responds via Twitter:

“Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have ‘Obama judges,’ and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country,” Trump said over Twitter.

He added: “We need protection and security ― these rulings are making our country unsafe! Very dangerous and unwise!”

  1. i think any sitting Justice of the SC should keep their opinions to themselves unless a case is brought before them for an opinion…..You are out of line Mr. Roberts….No one asked for an opinion…and I do not recall any other SC justice giving their opinion unless it is referring to a case before them…Well may Ruth has on occasion….but then she doesn’t know if she is alive , sleeping or dead….You are out of line…..

  2. Amen! Judges should not be involved in political issues. Politics is NOT impartial.

  3. Unless,of course, it’s regarding an issue brought before the court.
