Trump Ally Broidy Resigns Amid Cohen Discovery

By Kenneth White

Elliot Broidy, a major donor with close ties to the White House resigned on Friday as deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee. Broidy relayed this information to the R.N.C. chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel in a phone call. The Wall Street Journal reported that he had agreed to pay $1.6 million to a Playboy model to cover an affair and pregnancy. The deal was arranged by Michael Cohen whose offices and home were raided by the FBI last week. Michael Cohen is currently under investigation.

The ‘Playmate’ has remained unnamed but Broidy related in a statement “She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period. We have not spoken since that time.”

The contract agreed to between the Playboy model and Broidy used the same aliases found on the Stormy Daniels contract – “David Dennison” and “Peggy Peterson” — according to a person familiar with it.

The deal involving Mr. Broidy was not known to be a subject of the federal investigation. Broidy is the second R.N.C. Finance Committee member to step aside in recent months.
