A federal judge (Gonzalo Curiel) finalized the $25 million settlement between President Trump and students of the now shuttered Trump University last week. New York attorney Eric Schneiderman, on behalf of defendants in two class-action lawsuits and a civil suit, commented “This settlement marked a stunning reversal by President Trump, who for years refused to compensate the victims of his sham university”. Trump approved of the settlement a year ago and it has taken this amount of time to finalize agreements between all parties.
Over the past year President Trump has derided U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel numerous times, calling out his Hispanic descent and even called him a “hater,” but on Tuesday the two found themselves on common ground after Curiel ruled in the Trump administration’s favor in a lawsuit aimed at blocking the U.S.-Mexico border wall construction.
