According to a report by the Washington Post, Hillary Clinton along with the DNC financed the research for the now famous dossier that produced a number of allegations linking Donald Trump to Russia.
The dossier, which was produced by former British Intelligent Agent Christopher Steele made a number of claims including that Donald Trump had been recorded by Moscow officials engaging with prostitutes.
The dossier was originally published by Buzzfeed in January has been partially confirmed although for the most part many of the allegations remain unfounded.
According to the Wasington Post, DNC attorney Marc E. Elias hired intelligence company Fusion GPS to gather incriminating evidence on the then presidential candidate Donald Trump, Fusion then went on to hire now famous ex British intelligence agent Christopher Steele to compile the research, Steele had previously worked in Russia.
According to the report, the research was originally paid for by an unknown Republican consulting firm which then ceased its research after Donald Trump won the GOP nomination; it was then that the Clinton Campaign picked up the tab.
President Trump on hearing the news unsurprisingly went to Twitter to announce the find.
“Clinton campaign & DNC paid for research that led to the anti-Trump Fake News Dossier. The victim here is the President. @FoxNews” tweeted the President.
This revelation can have long reaching effects for the investigation into Trump’s dealings with Russia during the election; it can easily put some doubt on many of the allegations due to the DNC and Hillary’s campaign funding the research into questionable allegations.
The Washington Post did a fantastic piece explaining the dossier and the new finds here.
