Analysis / Bias
The U.S. Press Freedom Tracker provides a searchable incident database that includes arrests, assaults, denial of access, equipment damage/seizures, and legal orders. They also have an “other” category that “falls outside the scope of other categories but reaches a threshold of concern as determined by editorial discretion.”
For example, when searching for journalists who were assaulted, it lists all the news stories related to the event, such as this Journalist harassed, shoved while covering protest in Texas. Like many on the site, this incident is reported by the journalist involved. Others are reported by other media outlets.
The website also features a blog that highlights facts about threats to press freedom, such as this In 2022, 15 journalists arrested; more face charges, and Supreme Court ruling limits paths for journalists to hold federal officers accountable. This story is properly sourced from credible sources like the New York Times and SupremeCourt.gov. In general, the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker is evidence-based and minimally biased in reporting.
