Analysis / Bias

Vesna Vuković, the former founder of Necenzurirano, is allegedly linked to SEE M. & C., a consultancy. The potential financial transactions between SEE M. & C. and Robert Golob of GEN-I have prompted inquiries about editorial independence. Vuković later served as the General Secretary of the Freedom Movement (Gibanje Svoboda), a center-left party led by Dr. Robert Golob, also Slovenia’s Prime Minister.

Necenzurirano exhibits a left-center bias through its editorial choices and language, often using loaded language and framing that reflect a left-leaning perspective. Headlines and articles frequently criticize right-wing politicians and parties. For example, in “Logar has missed its moment. Even for those dissatisfied with SDS, it is unclear, foggy.” the negative wording about Anže Logar, a member of the conservative Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), influences readers’ perceptions before engaging with the content, indicating potential editorial bias.

Another article we analyzed, “Why doesn’t Jelinčič bother us with a camera in front of the kindergarten,” similarly shows bias. The title frames Jelinčič’s actions as problematic, relying on social media posts and the author’s commentary without direct citations or hyperlinks to primary sources. This reliance on social media, which often lacks thorough fact-checking processes, can affect the article’s credibility.

Necenzurirano’s focus on Jelinčič in the context of immigration shows their tendency to emphasize scandals involving right-wing politicians, suggesting a left-leaning bias. This prioritization may influence public perception against right-wing viewpoints. However, the site is also critical of the left. For example, they state, “On the right they are ready for elections, on the left they are not,” criticizing the center-left’s lack of preparedness and coherent narrative for the European elections. This piece contrasts the right wing’s clear messages with the left’s more complex communication and addresses issues like Gaza.

Necenzurirano is predominantly left-leaning, evidenced by its consistent criticism of right-wing parties and figures. The involvement of its key journalists with political figures and their roles within the government also suggests a left-leaning bias.
